Learn to Read
Description: Learn to Read (LTR) is a non-profit, Accredited Affiliate of ProLiteracy America, whose volunteers teach adults to read, empowering them to achieve many other life goals. The primary goal of LTR is to train volunteers to teach adults basic reading, writing, and life-long learning skills. One-to-one tutoring is done at no cost to the learner.
Skills Needed: A Learn to Read volunteer must be 18 years of age or older and must complete a 2-hour orientation and a 12-hour tutor training. Following the training, the LTR staff matches the tutor and learner.
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Able to read, write and speak English
- Compassion
- NO teaching experience required
